Recent Azure Outages and Issues

  • Apr 252024

Starting at approximately 00:21 UTC on 25 April 2024, we identified an issue with multiple Azure DevOps experiences impacting multiple geographies. We have applied mitigation and have noticed positive progress that it is improving availability for our customers. We are continuing to monitor our services to ensure the issue is fully mitigated. The primary impacts have been failures and slowness with Personal Access Token (PAT) usage and Azure Pipelines jobs failing to start or run jobs. Database performance in a service responsible for generating and authenticating tokens, including Personal Access Tokens and Pipeline session tokens, was identified as the underlying problem. We will continue to post updates as we learn more.

Impact Summary: Starting at approximately 04:37 CST on 23 Apr 2024, a subset of customers in Azure China regions may experience issues connecting to multiple Azure services due to DNS resolution issues. Service management operations for different resources may fail and operations in the Azure Portal (portal.azure.cn) may also fail. Current Status: We identified an incorrect nameserver configuration on one of the domains. We have rolled back and name resolutions are in the process of recovering at this time. We anticipate recovery in approximately 1 hour. The next update will be provided within 1 hour or as events warrant.

Impact Statement: Starting at 04:26 UTC on April 19, 2024, customers using Azure Database for MySQL - Single Server and Azure Database for MariaDB in West US region may experience connectivity issues. All connections to Azure Database for MySQL and Azure Database for MariaDB will fail and retry of the connections may not work as well.

Azure Databricks in West US, West US2, and South Central US is also impacted by the availability of Azure Database for MySQL service in West US region. For Azure Databricks, the impact includes:

    • Cluster CRUD requests and Jobs relying on cluster start/resize/termination may not execute.
    • Jobs submitted through APIs/Schedulers may not execute.
    • UI and Databricks SQL queries may time out.
    • Users may experience failures launching Databricks SQL Serverless Warehouses and may be unable to access UC APIs.
    • Customers may observe errors citing Authentication is temporarily unavailable or TEMPORARILY_UNAVAILABLE.

Current Status: We are actively investigating by engaging additional teams to determine the root cause for mitigation. The next update will be provided within 1 hour or as events warrant.
